Doornpoort Boerdery was founded by Dirk Lotter, whose deep-rooted love for farming began as a child on his family’s farm in the Willowmore district. Growing up as the son of Kobus Lotter, Dirk was immersed in the world of agriculture from an early age, with his favorite memory being shearing season alongside his father. This early exposure to the land and livestock nurtured a lifelong passion for farming.
After completing his schooling at Marlow Agricultural High School in Cradock, Dirk pursued further education and later traveled overseas, expanding his knowledge and experience. However, his heart remained with the farm. Upon returning, he married Chantel, whose own love for farming made her a perfect partner. Together, they built a life on the land they cherished, raising two sons who share their parents’ deep connection to the farm and its livestock.
In 2008, Dirk launched Dirk Lotter Transport, a business that has grown to include 120 trucks on the road. Yet, his dedication to agriculture has never wavered. Dirk’s commitment to excellence is evident in his focus on using the best genetics for breeding, ensuring top-quality livestock across his Merino, Meatmaster, Angora, Boerbok, Nguni, Dorper, and endurance horse studs.
The Lotter family is deeply passionate about the Karoo region, recognizing the unique advantages it offers for livestock farming. At Doornpoort Boerdery, farming is not just a profession—it’s a way of life, passed down through generations and embraced with a shared love for the land, the animals, and the rich heritage of the Karoo.
